Give us the elevator speech about your project (as in how would you describe your project to someone you meet in an elevator?):
My project is to create an app that allows members to partner with their credit union to help achieve their dreams. Members get the opportunity to tell us what they are striving for and we get to be their cheerleader along the way. The credit union can support the member by communicating savings promotions and helping the member build their credit score while the member can use the app to save articles and links related to whatever it is they are working toward. Whether it’s a mountain bike, a concert in Vegas or a first home, together we can achieve it!
What is your long-term career goal?
I see myself staying within the credit union movement throughout my career. I want to continue to work in a position that allows me to help others whether it’s staff, members or my community.
Fill in the dots: The future of credit unions will be bright if ...
The future of credit unions will be bright if we stay true to our roots and our values. Credit unions have to absolutely progress and remain relevant, but if we are not rooted in our history, we run the risk of becoming the “big bank across the street.” Serving the underserved and a cooperative philosophy are two of several values that need to be protected as we head into the future.
What my generation brings to the credit union movement is …
Passion! Our generation brings a vibrant passion for education, helping others and being a part of our community. Within the credit union movement this equates to strong member advocates and employees willing to put others above themselves.
People consider me a leader because …
Others consider me a leader because I have integrity, drive and focus. I also want everyone else around me to succeed. We as leaders are only as good as the team around us.
Who is your hero and why?
My two heroes are my kids (Alexis– 9 and Lakota– 3). They see the world every day with optimism and excitement. I am humbled frequently by the fact that they teach me as much as I teach them. I also get my work ethic from my dad which has proved invaluable to my achievements.
Who is a must-follow on Twitter?
I just joined Twitter, but I am looking forward to following credit union leaders, some of my favorite authors and motivational speakers.

What is your favorite CUES member benefit? Or, if you are a new CUES NextGen member, what benefit are you most looking forward to using?
I love all of the webinars that CUES has to offer! I think continuous development is so important and the CUES membership is a great resource.
Online voters and a panel of past finalists narrowed the CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec field from 19 to the Top 15 applicants. The challenge, held in conjunction with DDJ Myers and powered by Currency, searches for emerging leaders age 35 and under from within the credit union industry. The Top 15 will blog about their project. And to provide additional value to the competition experience, they’ll each receive an executive coaching session from DDJ Myers, a CUES Supplier member and strategic provider. A judging panel of two CUES members and Deedee Myers of DDJ Myers will then score the Top 15’s applications and blog posts, narrowing the competition to five finalists. The five finalists will receive additional coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration to CUES’ CEO/Executive Team Network™, Oct. 10-12 in Las Vegas, where they will give their final presentations. The 2017 CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec will receive further coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration for two CUES’ CEO Institutes, a total prize package valued at $20,000. |
