Give us the elevator speech about your project (as in how would you describe your project to someone you meet in an elevator?):

As many of you are aware, the Kindness Rock Project has been circulating throughout the country with a simple goal … to promote random acts of kindness to unsuspecting recipients. My project is to take this one step further and incorporate our credit union message and awareness on the rocks. This is a fun way to invite your community together and inform them about the credit union difference. Our rocks will display messages such as “Join Today,” “I Love My Credit Union,” “People Helping People.” We will write positive messages on them along with our office location and invite people to become a member to experience the credit union difference. This is a fun and inexpensive way to promote credit union awareness. We can place them throughout our credit union locations and in our serving counties to promote membership growth. We will share member testimonies and encourage others to share their credit union stories.

What is your long-term career goal?

My long-term career goal is most definitely being a part of the credit union movement. I am currently the assistant manager at Long Reach Federal Credit Union and truly enjoy my position within the credit union. With continued education and training, I would like to become the manager/CEO in the future. I would also like to become a Certified Financial Counselor.

Fill in the dots: The future of credit unions will be bright if ...

Everyone works together within the credit union industry. The credit union is not just a financial institution but a way of life. We are people helping people in many ways. Working together to share ideas and promoting financial education to our members and communities would help make our lives and the future of credit unions a brighter place. Sharing our stories and our passions for the movement are other ways to help create awareness to those who are not familiar with the credit union industry.

What my generation brings to the credit union movement is …

My generation brings much hope and excitement to the credit union movement with new initiatives and fresh ideas. As a millennial, we encourage strong community involvement, including volunteer work and mentoring. Millennials are often referred to as team-oriented, which is an important factor in the credit union industry. We are eager to succeed and are loyal, which helps create longevity in the workplace. These are all important elements that millennials bring to the credit union movement.

People consider me a leader because …

I am a trust-worthy individual and passionate about the credit union as a whole. I am eager to lend a helping hand on any task within the credit union and not afraid to take on new things. I am supportive to all of my colleagues and have faith in each and every one of them. I care about my staff and want them to succeed. I will encourage them and push them to give it their best with any obstacle. We have a great team at the credit union with great strengths overall.

Who is your hero and why?

My mom and dad are my heroes. My parents have been very supportive in my career choices, as well as my personal life. They have raised me to be well-rounded and respectful of others and to be kind and fun-loving. My parents are both hard workers and dedicated employees who love their family and their jobs. They focused on my sister and me and provided a safe and loving home. They are generous and honest people who are also passionate about life and the well-being of others. These are all important traits that describe my heroes. They have given me the gift of life and full support along the way. They have instilled values in me that I will carry on and hope to instill in my children.

What is your favorite CUES member benefit? Or, if you are a new CUES NextGen member, what benefit are you most looking forward to using?

I am a new CUES NextGen member and I am looking forward to the educational resources and additional knowledge that I will gain from this opportunity. I am excited to have the opportunity to further my education and be included in an additional networking group to share ideas and common interests.

Online voters and a panel of past finalists narrowed the CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec field from 19 to the Top 15 applicants. The challenge, held in conjunction with DDJ Myers and powered by Currency, searches for emerging leaders age 35 and under from within the credit union industry.

The Top 15 will blog about their project. And to provide additional value to the competition experience, they’ll each receive an executive coaching session from DDJ Myers, a CUES Supplier member and strategic provider. A judging panel of two CUES members and Deedee Myers of DDJ Myers will then score the Top 15’s applications and blog posts, narrowing the competition to five finalists.

The five finalists will receive additional coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration to CUES’ CEO/Executive Team Network™, Oct. 10-12 in Las Vegas, where they will give their final presentations. The 2017 CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec will receive further coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration for two CUES’ CEO Institutes, a total prize package valued at $20,000.
