Give us the elevator speech about your project (as in how would you describe your project to someone you meet in an elevator?):

The number of children awaiting permanent families in the U.S. is growing while adoption rates are decreasing. The biggest reason is a lack of liquid assets to cover the time sensitive costs of the adoption process. Credit Unions have a history of serving those that others see as insignificant or forgotten, and waiting children often fit that category. My “Bridging the Gap” adoption loan model will allow potential adoptive families to get the money they need to complete their home study, pay legal fees, pay for costly travel and placement fees. Last, but not least, children who are currently waiting for a forever home can have a forever family!

What is your long-term career goal?

Lead a mission-focused organization to new heights through developing a laser sharp focus on our vision for change and investing in the growth and development of people within the organization. I’d love to be a credit union CEO or the executive director of a credit union foundation.

Fill in the dots: The future of credit unions will be bright if ...

We remember that we are not just in the business of loans and deposits, but in the business of helping people achieve their life goals and dreams. (Bonus: we can’t just limit those dreams to new cars and new houses)

What my generation brings to the credit union movement is …

A unique perspective on what our generation is looking for from their credit union. I believe there are a lot of misconceptions about millennials that are unfair and ultimately create a barrier between them and credit union membership.

People consider me a leader because …

I live my life with conviction, I love to cast vision, and I’m willing to roll up my sleeves and take responsibility for getting the job done.

Who is your hero and why?

My wife is the strongest person I know and lives out her convictions every day. I’m constantly amazed at her ability to cast vision and her refusal to be bound by perceived limitations.

Who is a must-follow on Twitter?

Malcolm Gladwell. His work in the field of behavioral economics is brilliant and insightful.

What is your favorite CUES member benefit? Or, if you are a new CUES NextGen member, what benefit are you most looking forward to using?

I’m looking forward to gleaning from like-minded leaders with a similar passion to see credit unions reach new heights of success in engaging our community for the good.

Online voters and a panel of past finalists narrowed the CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec field from 19 to the Top 15 applicants. The challenge, held in conjunction with DDJ Myers and powered by Currency, searches for emerging leaders age 35 and under from within the credit union industry.

The Top 15 will blog about their project. And to provide additional value to the competition experience, they’ll each receive an executive coaching session from DDJ Myers, a CUES Supplier member and strategic provider. A judging panel of two CUES members and Deedee Myers of DDJ Myers will then score the Top 15’s applications and blog posts, narrowing the competition to five finalists.

The five finalists will receive additional coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration to CUES’ CEO/Executive Team Network™, Oct. 10-12 in Las Vegas, where they will give their final presentations. The 2017 CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec will receive further coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration for two CUES’ CEO Institutes, a total prize package valued at $20,000.
