Give us the elevator speech about your project (as in how would you describe your project to someone you meet in an elevator?):
Future Leaders in Innovation Program (FLIP) is a curriculum-based program that is designed around creating a culture of innovation within a credit union and the industry as a whole. Most people look at innovation from the top down; however, FLIP is designed to “flip the switch” and change the focus to our front-line staff. They interact with our members on a daily basis, see the issues they are facing and work alongside those members to help find solutions. If we can help facilitate this on a larger scale, then FLIP will give our employees the opportunity to look through the innovation process and give a platform for their ideas to grow and develop. The world of technology and innovation is constantly evolving; FLIP will help our industry be leaders of change.
What is your long-term career goal?
I would love to be a CEO, but my long-term career goal is simply to learn and develop as much as I can to make myself a better asset for the credit union movement.
Fill in the dots: The future of credit unions will be bright if ...
… we continue to put our members first, invest our time and leadership in developing the next generation, and strive to be a catalyst for innovation and change.
What my generation brings to the credit union movement is …
A mindset of challenging the “way we’ve always done it” mentality and a desire to make an impact on the lives of our members and the communities that we serve.
People consider me a leader because …
I am passionate about the work I do and strive to make a positive impact on everyone that I encounter. My goal is to be the kind of leader that people want to follow and want to imitate. I invest my time and energy to better those around me.
Who is your hero and why?
My parents. They have taught me everything I know about faith, hard work and determination. They are the reason I am who I am today.
Who is a must-follow on Twitter?
@simonsinek. Most of his posts are on leadership and innovation. I also enjoy his TED talk on “How Great Leaders Inspire Action.”
What is your favorite CUES member benefit? Or, if you are a new CUES member, what benefit are you most looking forward to using?
I am most looking forward to the knowledge resources and the leadership offerings. I would love to have the opportunity to attend one of the CUES schools or institutes, and the knowledge resources will help me stay up to date on credit union trends.
Online voters and a panel of past finalists narrowed the CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec field from 23 to the Top 10 applicants. The challenge, held in conjunction with DDJ Myers and powered by Currency, searches for emerging leaders age 35 and under from within the credit union industry. The Top 10 will blog about their project. And to provide additional value to the competition experience, they’ll each receive an executive coaching session from DDJ Myers, a CUESolutions provider for succession planning, executive recruitment and leadership coaching services. A judging panel of two CUES members and Deedee Myers of DDJ Myers will then score the Top 10’s applications and blog posts, narrowing the competition to five finalists. The five finalists will receive additional coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration to CUES’ CEO/Executive Team Network™, November 5-7, in Nashville, Tenn., where they will give their final presentations. The 2018 CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec will receive further coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration for two CUES’ CEO Institutes, a total prize package valued at $20,000. |
