Give us the elevator speech about your project (as in how would you describe your project to someone you meet in an elevator?):
Creating a process to help credit unions revamp their onboarding program to include a wealth of hands-on content and a fresh approach to improve the new employee experience.
What is your long-term career goal?
I look forward to continuing my career utilizing new, innovative ways to develop our employees.
Fill in the dots: The future of credit unions will be bright if ...
…we give our team members the foundation to be able to execute their daily responsibilities with ease and help them realize opportunities this industry holds for professional and individual development.
What my generation brings to the credit union movement is …
Passion and energy! We love credit unions and enjoy supporting our members through the services we provide. It’s essential for my generation to feel passionate about where we work—and the credit union does that.
People consider me a leader because …
…of my involvement in leading our new employees through their first two weeks at our organization. Additionally, I am on various teams and committees here at my credit union that require a great deal of leadership and organization. Presently, my biggest focuses are developing and testing new systems to be implemented in the next few months. We’re excited about these systems because they will create efficiencies and help our credit union better utilize new technologies in our day-to-day operations!
I am also heavily involved with my credit union’s Young Professional’s Network as the head of our Organizational Development Committee. One of our biggest accomplishments this year has been implementing a monthly leader chat. This involves inviting a manager or executive to spend a few minutes at each of our YPN meetings, giving us some insight into their career path and decisions they faced at our age. Through these opportunities, we’ve gotten to know much more about many of our senior level employees, as well as learning key takeaways to develop ourselves professionally.
Who is your hero and why?
My grandmother, Lorna, is my hero as well as my namesake. She helped raise me and taught me to value honesty and kindness. She loved sharing her tools and talents with anyone she could. Her warm personality put others at ease, and I strive to be the kind of strong woman she was. I also hope that I inherited more than just her curls.
Who is a must-follow on Twitter?
One of my favorite people to follow on Twitter is Tansley Stearns. I had the pleasure of meeting Tansley when I attended Filene’s Big Bright Minds conference last year. She has this infectious, positive energy and a real passion for propelling credit unions forward. I enjoy following the things she shares on Twitter.
What is your favorite CUES member benefit? Or, if you are a new CUES member, what benefit are you most looking forward to using?
I am new to CUES, but I look forward to the Members Share resource. The ability to collaborate and share documents and procedures with others is unique to the credit union industry, and it’s one of the things I value most. Why not save time and energy for everyone if there is something already working for others?
Online voters and a panel of past finalists narrowed the CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec field from 23 to the Top 10 applicants. The challenge, held in conjunction with DDJ Myers and powered by Currency, searches for emerging leaders age 35 and under from within the credit union industry. The Top 10 will blog about their project. And to provide additional value to the competition experience, they’ll each receive an executive coaching session from DDJ Myers, a CUESolutions provider for succession planning, executive recruitment and leadership coaching services. A judging panel of two CUES members and Deedee Myers of DDJ Myers will then score the Top 10’s applications and blog posts, narrowing the competition to five finalists. The five finalists will receive additional coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration to CUES’ CEO/Executive Team Network™, November 5-7, in Nashville, Tenn., where they will give their final presentations. The 2018 CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec will receive further coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration for two CUES’ CEO Institutes, a total prize package valued at $20,000. |
