A week or so ago, I wrote a quick post to praise TDECU for their blog updates about Hurricane Ike. Now, this week, I saw that Bill Marriott, chairman and CEO of Marriott International, responded on his blog within hours of the deadly bombing of a Marriott hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan. Marriott's post was straightforward and without spin. He reported what happened, praised the security detail that died in the explosion, and extended his condolences to those affected by the bombing.
I'm more and more impressed with the ways organizations are using their blogs for crisis management. Blogs are a fast and easy way to summarize a situation, explain what the organization is doing about it, and encourage feedback from those affected. It also allows the press to praise the organization for being on the ball instead of failing to respond.
Blogging isn't a cure-all, but if your credit union has a blog, don't forget it when crisis strikes.
