It's not often that a sign in an airport catches my attention, but last week this one did.
Initially, the slogan is what caught me. It made me laugh. But then I saw this:
What an innovative way to build the local community.
When I got home, I went to Finnegan's Web site. Through their site, they coordinate volunteers, accept donations and applications for community-building grants, and promote their beer. And they do it all with a great sense of humor.
This begs the question: If beer can be known throughout an entire metro area as a community builder, why can't credit unions? Finnegan's is just a beer and it only has a five-year history. Credit unions have 100+ years of history, millions of members served, and give-back built into their business model. But still, too many consumers think of CUs as just another bank. Why is that?
