Tractor Tales/Mentoring Update

When I posted "Tractor Tales: Who's Your Mentor?" I was ever so pleased when Dennis Pierce, CEO of $1.7 billion CommunityAmerica Credit Union, Lenexa, Kans., commented that his father had been one of his key teachers.

I got to spend quite a bit of July and early August with my Dad. I showed him the "tractor post" about how his mother had taught me an early journalism lesson. She sent me out to the barn to get more facts--specifically to find out the model of tractor I was writing about in my summer vacation "newspaper."

Dad must have learned from Grandma, too. When he saw the tractor post with the "generic" photo of a Farmall A tractor, he offered up a new one that gives a lot more detail. This one is the actual Tyler family tractor, with my Uncle Bill driving. Dad likes to say that "the tractor is a 1942 model; the driver, a 1938."

Great mentors, Dad and Grandma. Anyone else want to talk about theirs?
