Kicking off the Week With a Little CU Spirit

I love to read upbeat news stories about credit unions that are succeeding by adhering closely to the traditions on which the movement was built. That's why I enjoyed reading this interview in the Winston-Salem Journal with Jack Braswell, president/CEO of Members Credit Union.

Mr. Braswell doesn't shy away from addressing the challenges the credit union is facing. He mentions the ongoing challenges of increased regulations, but iterates that the credit union's mission hasn't changed a whit.

He states, "We continue to be focused on providing low-cost, high-quality financial services to our field of membership, being good corporate citizens, and financial literacy education. This narrowly defined mission has always put our decision-making process into perspective, no matter how much the business landscape has changed." He then goes on to detail the ways the credit union is aiding its members who may be struggling in today's economy through skip-a-payment programs and loan modifications.

All in all, I thought Mr. Braswell's interview shined a light on the credit union difference. It was a bright spot and an encouragement on a Monday morning. What a nice way to start the week.
