'Mocketing' at Its Finest

A couple months back, I wrote about my admiration for Robert Lee and Cullman Liquidators, how I thought their commercial was so brilliant in trying to reach a certain segment of the market. Turns out the folks who produced the Cullman Luquidators commercial also did this "violent and awesome" commercial for $88 million/13,000-member Bucks First Federal Credit Union, and the result is no less quirky and memorable.

The video was featured on ilovecommercials.com, Rhett and Link's latest project. They were hired by Microbuilt, a technology company specializing in business software, to produce free local commercials. According to Currency Marketing's Tim McAlpine's rough estimates, the Bucks First FCU commerical is the most viewed credit union video of all time with more than 160,000 hits and counting. (Currency Marketing held the previous record with their Young and Free: The Difference Between Banks and Credit Unions videos.)

Rhett and Link represent the independent spirit that local communities and businesses, including credit unions, are fighting to preserve. Give Bucks First FCU credit; at a time when very few associated with the banking and financial services industry are making people laugh, this credit union--with Rhett and Link's direction--swam upstream with a brilliant piece of "mocketing."  Kudos to them.
