This morning CUES announced the 2011 Next Top Credit Union Exec: Devin Selte, senior relationship manager, team lead with $11 billion Servus Credit Union, Edmonton, Alberta. Devin was recognized with a $20,000 educational prize package for his work on Servus CU's Young Leaders Network. Nice work, Devin!
One of the things that becomes apparent as you look over Devin's entries is that the Young Leaders Network helps young employees at Servus CU reflect on what they're doing--and become better for doing so.
And that got me to reflecting on the value of reflection...
My perusals of the Next Top Credit Union Exec website in the last two days added fuel to this fire. Not surprisingly, the end of a months-long competition was a good time for reflection on what's happened and what comes next. On Halloween, finalist Amanda Thomas--marketing and business development manager with $48 million Members First Credit Union in Columbus, Ohio--posted "We're Never Really Done" on the Next Top Credit Union Exec blog. The post included one of her top takeaways from the competition:
We are all on a course of professional and personal development for which there isn’t a final destination.
Well said, Amanda! Great reflection!
And, I have to note, reflection certainly isn't reserved for the young in our industry.
I've led two "Expert Advisors" groups at CUES this year. As as we go into our last of four quarterly meetings, the CUES member participants and I are taking time to reflect on how well we've met our goals, and what new ideas we have as a result of the year's efforts, both for the Expert Advisors groups themselves and for other initiatives that knowing each other better have brought.
