Give us the elevator speech about your project (as in how would you describe your project to someone you meet in an elevator?)

Talent 20/20 is how we as a credit union industry should strategically MOVE people (in multiple senses of the word) and our organizations forward. By move, this goes WAY beyond physically moving employees as part of a succession plan (something too many credit unions aren’t even doing) to moving by invigorating our employees, leaders and members by investing, caring, valuing, developing and including them in our long term strategic plans for the organization. Talent 20/20 is how credit unions will thrive and avoid acquisitions, conservatorship and insolvency and keep as many credit unions alive, safe and sound.

What is your long-term career goal?

Credit union CEO and/or CU talent management consultant (on this idea!)

Fill in the dots: The future of credit unions will be bright if ...

We realize we are only as strong as the leaders who are going to succeed us and that it is our responsibility to leave our credit unions, employees and members in better shape than we found them.

What my generation brings to the credit union movement is …

New ideas and approaches, a passion for helping people and a passion for giving back that, if smart, our industry and leaders will capitalize on.

People consider me a leader because …

I inspire change (according to one of my direct reports)!

Who is your hero and why?

My grandmother. Although she is no longer with us, she taught me how to care about people and how to love more. She taught me compassion and the importance of making time for people you care about, no matter the setting. She also reminded me that I am replaceable, so I have to work hard every single day to demonstrate my value.

What is your favorite CUES member benefit? Or, if you are a new CUES NextGen member, what benefit are you most looking forward to using?

I am looking forward to the networking as well as the resources like videos and webinars.

Online voters and a panel of past finalists narrowed the CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec field from 20 to the Top 15 applicants. The challenge, held in conjunction with DDJ Myers and administered by Currency, searches for emerging leaders age 35 and under from within the credit union industry.

The Top 15 will blog about their project. And to provide additional value to the competition experience, they’ll each receive an executive coaching session from DDJ Myers, a CUES Supplier member and strategic provider. A judging panel of two CUES members and Deedee Myers of DDJ Myers will then score the Top 15’s applications and blog posts, narrowing the competition to five finalists.

The five finalists will receive additional coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration to CUES’ CEO/Executive Team Network, Oct. 23-26 in Savannah, Ga., where they will give their final presentations. The 2016 CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec will receive further coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration for two CUES’ CEO Institutes, a total prize package valued at $20,000.
