Now that I've unsusbscribed from a bunch of e-newsletters that I didn't really read, I've been able to focus on a couple of e-newsletters I've wanted to spend more time with.
BAI's "Banking Strategies Retail Delivery Insights" is one of those, and recently it featured an article by Mary Beth Sullivan of Capital Financial Group, who decided "to spend time one morning searching the Internet for examples of interesting things being done by banks to help their customers in this time of great economic crisis."
What a great goal. But what a disappointing result--and what an opportunity for credit unions:
"I didn't find much," Sullivan wrote. "The federal government, our country's accounting profession and even advertisers are doing interesting things in this regard—but not banks."
I know from editing copy for the February issue of Credit Union Management that during this time of great economic crisis, CUs are doing a lot to help members save and be thrifty. And in editing a story for our March issue, now in production, I know that CUs will bend over backwards to help members keep their houses and avoid foreclosure. Finally, I know that the writer I assigned to cover the idea of "good things CUs are doing with bad debt" for our April issue has had no shortage of sources.
So I know there are great things going out there in CU land as people help people find their way through this economic mess. But go on, overwhelm me. Give me more examples, shining examples, in your comments.
