A School is Born; a Review, Achieved

Friends from my personal network doubted me, jokingly, when I said I had a work trip to Hawaii. And I confess I have a pretty nice view of the ocean from the patio on Kauai where I'm working on this post. View

But take note: Awesome things happen in awesome places.

I know because, in the hour I spent on the terrace of the hotel here in Kauai this afternoon, two cool things happened.

A credit union board chairman gave his CEO his review, and a new CUES school was born.

Apparently this CEO's performance review occurs pretty much every year at CUES Symposium: A CEO/Chairman Exchange. What a reflective setting in which to handle the business of thinking about what's gone really well in the last year and what can be even better going forward.

Simultaneously, my own CUES colleagues and a business partner put their heads together over an idea for a new learning opportunity for our movement. I can't share the details yet, but my 15 years of writing about credit unions makes me very confident it's going to be great.

Sure, the performance review and the brainstorming meeting could have taken place in an office, using videoconferencing, or in a restaurant close to home. But sometimes an awesome place inspires more. Where do you go when you want to think about where you've been and where you're going next? Do you have a favorite spot for brainstorming?
