Thanks to Non-Traditional CU Volunteers, Too

What comes to mind when you hear the phrase “credit union volunteer"?

I think of a credit union board member. But we overlook a lot of volunteers if we are stuck in this mindset.

The CUES Canada Council Annual Business Meeting I attended recently reminded me that plenty of credit union volunteers are also credit union employees.

David B. Craigen, CCE, the council chairman, stepped down after 11 years of service on the CUES Canada Council Board. His “day job” is CEO of First Credit Union in Powell River, British Columbia. (The picture is a photo of  Dave receiving a certificate of appreciation for his years of service from Council Secretary Daniel Johnson, SVP/strategy and governance at Chinook Credit Union, Ltd., Strathmore, Alberta.)

CUES, CUNA, NAFCU, and every other credit union professional development or trade association has boards, advisory groups and subject matter experts who guide the organizations and make them better able to serve members.

I was able to express my gratitude to Dave for his service when I saw him at the meeting in Niagara Falls. This Skybox post is my thank-you to all the volunteers—those we traditionally think of as volunteers … and those we don’t.

Thanks! You make a difference for your fellow members, and I appreciate it.
