The Impact of One Person

By

I had the honor this month of flying directly from CUES' Directors Conference in Las Vegas to recognize CUES Board Member and President/CEO of Goldenwest Federal Credit Union Shelley B. Clarke.

Shelley is retiring from the credit union at the end of this month, and the board and staff saluted her 37 years of service with a beautiful gathering at the credit union in Ogden, Utah.

Before I left Las Vegas for the celebration, Lyn Heyward, Cirque du Soleil’s creative director and executive producer, closed the conference with a breathtaking video titled “One Man.” Take a moment to watch it before you read on.

The room was silent after viewing the video. Heyward’s point was that if one man can have the vision and drive to create such a beautiful performance, then each of us can individually accomplish more than we dreamed. And all of us, as a group dedicated to credit unions, can have an enormous impact.

What a perfect message to bring to Shelley at the close of her 37-year career at Goldenwest FCU. The staff, board and members all have felt the impact of her vision and leadership directly. The credit union movement as a whole has been blessed by the insight shared through her service on the CUES and NAFCU boards of directors.

Shelley, thank you!
