The March meeting of the Alabama Council of CUES, attended by 80 credit union executives and employees, was held at Talladega Super Speedway. Here are some highlights from the race-themed presentation of keynote speaker Robert Stevenson:
- Any successful leadership formula involves a process, not an event.
- A problem identified is a blessing. It identifies your weakness and you can work on it.
- Get paranoid! Complacency kills.
- All employees need to look at each member as an opportunity to win the race.
- Share things that aren’t working and learn from other people’s mistakes to avoid making the same ones yourself.
- Make your members say “Wow, not “Oh.”
- Make sure your credit union is easy to do business with.
- Women are the decision-makers in financial services. Men tell 2.6 people about good service; women tell 21! Start catering to women more.
- Send cards! They build trust, confidence and rapport.
- Don’t be afraid to ask the question, “In a perfect world, what could we do for you that we aren’t now?”
