What Stands out on a C-Level Resume?

Most recruiters scan a resume for just a few seconds before deciding whether to take a second, more in-depth review. The executive search consultants at DDJ Myers look at candidate resumes for C-level positions with an eye for accomplishments, expertise, value added and education. Our strong preference is to see a college degree followed by frequent and relevant ongoing education. For us, seeing completion of CUES’ CEO Institute makes a resume a standout.

When our recruiters see a candidate resume that lists graduation from CEO Institute I, II and III and a completed between-segments project (with the resulting designation of Certified Chief Executive, CCE), we assume the candidate:

  • Has high current and potential value for the employing credit union—enough so that the CU thought it worthwhile to invest this person’s time and tuition to attend the program.
  • Has a commitment to learning, and the capacity to balance a rigorous education program simultaneously with their current credit union role and personal obligations.
  • Is likely to encourage ongoing learning at his or her credit union, thereby supporting a culture that fosters professional development.
  • Embodies a quality of knowledge that is strategic and forward-thinking.
