In the past, when something would go badly at CUES, retired President/CEO Fred Johnson sometimes would put it into perspective by saying, "Hey, no one shot at you today." Retired army, Johnson knew what he was talking about.
I'm sure Johnson would say that when someone does shoot at you--or blows up part of your ship--leadership and accountability matter more than ever. Kirk S. Lippold, commander of the USS Cole when it was attacked off the coast of Yemen in October 2000, will talk about this idea during his keynote session at Directors Conference next month.
Get a preview of Lippold's leadership response that fateful day by watching the video below, or reading Lippold's book, Front Burner. Then plan to see his presentation at Directors Conference in Hawaii.
